Cupcake Cuties

Can you believe how cute these little cupcakes are?  I have been seeing cupcakes like these all over pinterest and I love them.  The directions seem pretty easy, and just look how cute they are in an Easter basket.  Imagine a whole tray of them at a party.  sigh  By the time you buy all of the ingredients and spend a couple of hours decorating, there you will have them.  They might take a whole Saturday.

Don't despair, I found these at Family Dollar for a dollar each.  YAY!  They are the size of a standard cupcake and are made of marshmallow.
I'm dying

More Fun From The Dollar Store

I also found these maypole candies at the dollar store.  They are so sweet looking all by themselves or displayed in a pretty vase.  And for cakes or cupcakes they are awesome.  You can bend them over a cupcake and secure with a toothpick to form a basket handle.  Spread them around the base of a cake to form a cute border.  And then there's this:

Get some extra long toothpicks.

Wrap the maypole into a lollipop shape.  Push the toothpick through all the layers.
then ta da!  A lollipop cupcake topper.  So sweet for a baby shower too.

this link shows a larger one with a free printable

UPDATE:  more examples of above ideas

what's up with this one?  it's a bit wonky
We're eating this cake tonight.

Cupcake Wrapper Recycling

You've probably guessed that I have thrown about a million children's parties.  I like to use the decorations
over  for a while and then give them to goodwill.  But this time I recycled.  GO GREEN!
I had a pretty fabric table runner I've used a few times and am ready to let go.  I thought about making some kind of curtain but the material is very stiff so it wouldn't drape right.  I finally thought to make cupcake wrappers.  The fabric is perfect for them, stiff enough to hold them upright and sheer and pretty.  And you can clean them and use them over for another party.

I found a pattern for a wrapper online, printed it, and cut away.  They turned out really pretty.

Gum Machine Upcycle

I bought a couple of these gum machines around Easter.  I wish I had bought more-maybe next year.  Any way I emptied it and clipped off the tag.

Then I filled it with sprinkles.  Made a sprinkle tag.  And tied a ribbon around it.
And now I have a cute way to store sprinkles.  I wish I had a whole set of them on a white spice rack.  If you see these buy a bunch, you won't regret it.

Funnest Drink Ever

I  know you probably saw those cute mini gingerbread houses perched as a garnish on the edge of drinks --they were popular over the holidays.  I wanted to try them but dang making a gingerbread house, even a small one, is a lot of work.

Then I saw this adorable idea to put a mini cupcake on the edge of a glass of milk.  I saw some cute valentine ones at the grocery store yesterday.  I am going to link to the blogpost.  This is a new blog to me and I think it is fabulous.   She says that the cupcakes come off very easily so I was also thinking maybe one of those Little Debbie valentine cakes would work better, it might be too big but it seems a little bit stronger.  I was also thinking you could slide the mini cupcake onto the straw.

I Should Know Better

I should never go to Michael's with money in my pocket.  It's just too dangerous, I want everything I see.
I was there today and they had the cutest felt cupcake decorations.  I have a crazy mad love affair with cupcake toppers so I added a pick and a bow and here ya go.

I love that place.

Cupcakes: The Birth of the Tutu topper

I love cupcakes frosted like these.  So gorgeous winding around a cupcake.  Ready for anything.  I have watched tutorials on how to do this and have tried to get this look.  But it just aint happening for me.  Mine is crooked and bloppy.  So today I was messing around with lollipops and cupcake toppers and then I happened to put them together and ta da.  A lollipop wearing a tutu which looks like that frosting I love but now don't have to master.  YES!  Lame frosting skills led me to a topper I love even more.
